The Variety of Life

2008 August 20

I think sleeping in our house after the ceiling work messed with my airways. I have an itchy throat, am sneezing, and my nose is flooding with phlegm. Ugh.

Today, my grandma wanted to look around the local Thrift Towns. I’m telling you, these second-hand merchandise stores are something special. It’s like digging through the soil to find priceless artifacts. Through the shoveling and clawing, elation is achieved once the object is found. Purchasing for $2 makes it even better.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I haven’t been in the “sneakerhead mode.” I’d look around Niketalk and the Solecollector forums, but the shoes and fits aren’t that appealing to me anymore. I had a conversation with Janet’s friend about the whole sneaker culture and I was surprised just how much I knew from legitimacy to what exactly makes a sneaker sell. I felt a little dorky about it, too. I thought it crazy that I left that much knowledge to collect dust in my mind. Perhaps it is a reason why I’m sick. Hehe.

Looking through the racks brought to mind another notion: I buy too much plaid. My wardrobe has been invaded by plaid shirts. My t-shirts do not have a chance. They’re losing this battle.

Plaid is my bug zapper. I’m the fly. I draw close and hover around for a little. The next thing I know is that it’s fried to my hand and I can’t scrape it off until I get to a cart or cash register.

I told Nikolai that I wasn’t going to buy plaid for at least a month. I really need some variety in my closet. However, I did buy a plaid shirt. Just one. Yeah yeah, I know.

Sneakers were bountiful, though. I bought a pair, but here’s what I found digging through the dirt. I’ll show pics of the pair tomorrow; I’m too lazy to run to the parking lot and get them out of the trunk.

Legit, by the way. Size 6y. I just thought it was cool to find something like this at a thrift store.

I’m pooped and my nose keeps flowing with the phlegm.

And I miss my manbag.

Man.
